While our country and state achieved certain important millstones in the field of development, our district too endeavored to bring about welfare and changes in the life of people, he said.
Though our district has often been referred to as the most backward district of the state, there has been remarkable change in the scenario with the special interventions through RGGVY, NREGS and RSVY for the last two years.
At present under NREGS all families of the district have been a provided employment as guaranteed under it and the remaining 30 days employment will be given within the next two months, he said.
Apart from providing employment, NREGS is creating infrastructure like IVR, water harvesting structures and play ground in the villages.
Under RSVY programme infrastructure like school building and roads have been created at a massive scale, he said.
However, inspite of all efforts there are huge and chronic deficits in the various sectors in the district which added to the agony and hardship to the people, he said.
"We still have many remote villages unconnected with all weather roads, building-less schools, non-functional dispensaries and total lack of public transportation system that added to the agony and pain to the people", he said.
He also said that the district has lot of potentials in terms of natural and human resources, adding that harnessing and translating all these resources into prosperity and welfare has been the major change.
He also pointed out that because of the efforts put in by the civil society and organizations, peace has been restored in the district during the last one year with all the active outlawed groups agreeing not to resort to violence towards one another, adding that such fighting had been disturbing the peace and stability in the district, he added.
In the meantime, the best performance in NREGS was awarded to three villages during the Republic day celebration day.
The three villages are Puching, Neigailong and Taobam villages.
Out of 8 departments which participated in gate construction competition, Medical Department, DRDA Tamenglong and Tamenglong Cane and Bamboo (TAMBAC) won the first, second and third prizes respectively.
Out of 25 contingents who participated in March Pas, Kendriya Vidyalaya Tamenglong, 5th MR Unit School and JNV Tamenglong were chosen first, second and third respectively.
Just after the Republic Day celebration a football friendly match was also organized between District Level Officers' and Social Leaders in which the District Officers' team won the match.
