IPPI programme held

The first phase of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) was carried out for defence and civil children up to 5 years of age on Jan 18, 19 and 20 under the aegis of Red Shield Division.
528 defence and 224 civil children were immunised with 2 drops of oral polio vaccine in pursuant of the Nation's goal to eradicate polio, said a statement issued by the PRO (Defence), Imphal.
Fixed booths were established at Military Hospitals of Leimakhong, Agartala and Masimpur.
Extensive door to door immunisation was undertaken by health worker teams of Military Hospitals of Leimakhong, Agartala and Masimpur and Field Hospitals of Leimakhong and Aizawl.
The pulse polio immunisation drive was also undertaken by Medical Officers of various units deployed under Red Shield Division for civil children in remote areas of the State.
It was a step towards extending assistance and motivating local population to make use of immunisation and to protect children staying in far flung and difficult areas of Manipur and Mizoram, it added.
