UG threats overshadow railway project<
Construction companies likely to suspend works

Imphal, January 22 2015:
In view of constant threats and intimidations from some armed UG groups, the companies engaged in the construction of railway line from Jiribam to Tupul, declared as a National Project by the Government of India, have decided to suspend their works within the next 2/3 days until full-proof security arrangement is provided for the safety of its workers and officials at different locations.
According to sources, some unidentified armed UG groups have been demanding huge ransom amount after kidnapping officials/workers of the construction companies, thereby hampering the progress of the work and creating an insecure environment for the officials/workers.

There have also been instances of causing destruction to costly machineries of these construction companies.
There were at least 5 to 6 cases of kidnapping of the officials/workers of the construction companies in the last 2 months with the latest being the kidnapping of Ramjit Thakur, Forman and Ramjul Haque, driver of M/s Coastal Projects Limited in the morning of January 19 along with their vehicle bearing registration no.SK01-2852.The kidnappers have demanded a huge amount as ransom which is beyond the capacity of the said construction company to meet.
