Wildlife Week celebration

Calling upon the people to put best efforts to protect the habitats of wildlife and rededicate to the noble cause of wildlife protection, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has stressed on the need to create a mass movement to generate awareness of wildlife heritage.
In a message on the occasion of 58th Wildlife Week celebration 2013 that is celebrated in the first week of October, the PM said despite the varied pressures of modernisation and development, the wildlife resources are protected through policies and programmes that have resulted in notable successes such as increase in the population of various species, including the tiger, elephant and rhinoceros.
Meanwhile, the valedictory function f the 58th Wildlife Week celebration under the aegis of Forest Dept, Manipur would be held at Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroishemba on Oct 10, according to a statement.
