Imphal, October 07 2013 :
Although normal life was crippled by the 12-hour general strike called by the Committee on Protection of Land in Border Fencing, the strike ended on a peaceful note.
The general strike was called against the Government's alleged indifferent attitude to the outcry over the purported loss of Manipur's territory due to the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Normal life came to a standstill in most parts of the State during the general strike called by CPLBF which was endorsed by several organisations.
However, no strike related untoward incident was reported.
Inter-State, inter-districts passenger vehicles as well as commercial vehicles stayed off the road.
As a result, employees' attendance at Government offices was minimal.
Most of the private educational institutions, especially in the valley districts, remained closed although Govt schools remained open.
