Imphal, June 26 2021:
Local residents of Tharon village in Thangmeiband assembly constituency on Saturday staged a sit-in protest against the proposed route of the Imphal Ring Road project, which would pass through their village, and demanded realignment of the route.
Local resident Athon Gangmei, who took part in the protest, said that they were allowed to settle at the foothills of Cheiraoching some 500 years ago by the then king as a testimony of the hill-valley brotherhood.
The proposed ring road is threatening the existence of the village and if the village no longer exist, it will take away an example of the hill-valley relationship, he said.
Athon Gangmei also said that they strongly oppose the proposed route of the ring road and urged the government to realign the route so as to save the centuries old symbol of hill-valley brotherhood.
