Joychandra takes over as president of UCM

Joychandra Konthoujam has taken over as president of United Committee Manipur president during it general assembly.
Other office bearers for the term 2021-2024 were also named at the organisational Headquarters at Lamphelpat today.
The general assembly of the body was convened with outgoing president Sunil Karam, members of the consultative committee of the body, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar and L Jadu as presidium members.
In the election for new office bearers, Joychandra Konthoujam, YK Dhiren and Ngangom Deba Meitei were elected as the new president, vice president and general secretary respectively and subsequently took oath to assume their new posts.
Speaking at the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam recalled the genesis of the organisation in the aftermath of the "Bangkok Declaration" on June 14, 2001 signed between between India Government and NSCN (IM) .

Massive protests erupted over the phrase "without territorial limits" mentioned in the Bangkok pact, he recalled while adding that various civil society organisations had to gather to chalk out protest strategy from June 15 .
18 people had to lay down their lives by June 18 during the mass movement and it seeded the formation of the United Committee Manipur, he recalled.
Due to the massive movements, the Government of India had to remove the phrase 'without territorial limits', he said while adding that the threat to the territory of Manipur still continues to hang over.
NSCN (IM)'s agenda of a Greater Nagaland by incorporating portions of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar had failed to work but there are continuous bids to create dissension among communities and to carve out "a State within a State", he said.
Since its inception in 2001, UCM has been working towards preservation of the State's territory, uphold the National identity and peaceful co-existence among communities residing in the State and will carry forward the same, he continued.
Suggestions and advice towards their cause from various quarters will also be warmly accepted, the new president added.
Other office bearers of the body elected for the term 2021-2024 include Nahakpam Shanta (secretary organization), Nongmaithem Jiban (secretary finance), Leisemba Lamaba (secretary IPR), Mayanglambam ongbi RK Radhesana (secretary women affairs), Laimayum Inaobi (secretary accounts) and RK Mangisana (secretary HRD).
The 26 newly elected office bearers were administered oath by Yumnamcha Dilipkumar as oath commissioner.
