Assault on hawker, Home Minister assures action

Imphal, July 28 2012:
Home Minister Gaikhangam has assured that stern actions would be taken up against any Police personnel who were involved in assaulting and robbing of a newspaper distributor on Thurday night at Kiyamgei Pal Ahalbi.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Gaikhangam informed that SP Imphal West has begun an investigation into the incident and expressed hope that the culprits would be caught soon.
The Government would not spare any personnel if they were found involved in the incident, he added.
It may be mentioned that Ningthoujam Bira, a newspaper distributor from Heirok but presently staying at Keishamthong was assaulted by some persons suspected to be Police Commandos.
He was also robbed of his mobile phone, Honda Activa and Rs 16,000 cash before being abandoned at Lilong Arapati area on Thursdat night.
Bira was returning home after selling newspaper at Thoubal and Wangjing areas when the incident occurred.
All Manipur Newspaper Sellers' and Distributors' Association had given July 30 as deadline to the government for arresting the culprits and punishing them.
