'Need to address COVID-19 pandemic and drug menace simultaneously'

As a part of its continued activities to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic effectively in the State, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) in association with Directorate of AYUSH distributed AYUSH-64 medicines at Thinungei in Bishnupur district today.
The distribution programme was organised by CADA Bishnupur District Committee adhering to Covid SOPs, said a press release by CADA.
Today's programme was graced by Hijam Priyokumar, president of CADA, Huiningsumbam Basanti, president of CADA Bishnupur District Committee and Huiningsumbam Chandra, senior citizen as the presidium members.
Ningthoujam Doren, vice president of CADA and secretary organization, Mayengbam Budhi spoke as resource persons and sensitize the participants on COVID-19 .
Speaking on the occasion, Ningthoujam Doren stressed on the need to strictly follow the Covid appropriate behaviours such as using of sanitizers and frequent washing of hands, wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing when one is in public places and so on to overcome the dreaded pandemic.

He also urged all the eligible persons to take the jab of Covid vaccine to stay protected and contain its further spread.
Hijam Priyokumar while speaking on the occasion highlighted that the number of drug users have increased rapidly in the State amid the difficult situation of COVID-19 pandemic when one is gruelling owing to steep price hike of essential commodities.
He continued that drugs worth crores are being brought in to the State and are seized regularly amid the restrictions imposed by the State which is a matter of serious concern.
It is a known to all that the drugs seized is just a portion of the huge quantities which are brought into the State, he maintained and raised question that whether the authorities concerned have approved of such illegal activities.
Lastly he called for concerted efforts to save the State from the clutch of drugs and the COVID-19 pandemic.
