Imphal, June 23 2019:
Alleging that DM University lacks all necessary facilities and amenities required for a university, the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has announced that it has put a complete ban on all activities concerning DM University immediately.
Speaking to media persons at AMSU headquarters today, its president Peter Laishram said that when DM College was converted into DM University, students were elated but today, all the dreams and hopes of the student community have been crushed as the institution bears no semblance of being a university.
He said that till date, the required syndicate members, academic councils, Dean, regular VC, regular Registrar, teaching and non-teaching staff are vague and this has created a huge impact on the students.
As the DM University is not a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) till date, the certificates received by students from the university will be put to question, he added.
Peter continued that students studying at DM University do not have any registration number till today and as such, they are not able to take part in any of the cultural and sporting activities at the East Zone, National or international levels.
Since DM University is lacking all of the features and facilities necessary for a university, AMSU has decided to put a complete ban on all activities related to the university immediately, including counselling for the First Semester (undergraduate) which will be held tomorrow, he announced.
Stating that the authorities concerned will have to bear all responsibilities for the inconveniences, Peter said that the current functions of the university are carried out by bureaucrats acting as the VC and the Registrar.
As such, he demanded the UGC to appoint a regular VC and Registrar to facilitate timely declaration of exams and ensure proper administration.
