Multiple cropping is the need of the hour: S Rajen

Farmers of the state should adopt multiple system of farming for self dependent economy as major portion of the cultivable lands in the state are lying vacant for a long period between harvesting of a single crop in a year.
Education Minister S Rajen Singh said this today at the 'One Day Farmers' Training Programme Cum Distribution of Pre-Kharif and Kharif crops' at Salam.
He said that the agricultural productivity in the state can be increased manifolds if modern scientific methods are adopted in farming.
The concept of Green Field should be made feasible to ease out the problem of insufficiency of food grains and vegetables.
Central Agricultural University, CAU, Imphal is also playing a vital role to increase production of crops in the state, he added.
The Minister also maintained that we need to have a fair Agricultural Policy of the state.

He added that farmers of the state should consult experts of CAU regarding high yielding seeds and using of modern method of technology in agriculture for augmenting production.
Minister S Rajen distributed pre Kharif and Kharif crops and sprayers to the farmers followed by a technical session.
Speaking at the event Dr S Basanta Singh, director of research, CAU said that farmers of the state can get training on different methods of farming from the experts of CAU and the Indian Government has also introduced many schemes to develop agriculture sector such as PMSY, PMKY etc.

Borewell digging will also help the farmers.
Farmers have also been trained at different stages, he added.
