Imphal, March 17 2021:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged the Centre to establish an Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Manipur.
Making a Special Mention in the Parliament today, Sanajaoba said India has established seven IISER across the country with an exception of the North-East region.
These institutions are of National importance and they promote high quality education in Science and Research activities to meet the current global standard of Science and Technological advancement.
Manipur has no institute of National importance at the level of IIT, IIM etc and it is the desire of the people to see such an institute established in the State.
"The people of Manipur wish to embrace the new culture of education for training our future human resources in basic Sciences and fundamental research, its strategies and solid platform.
I honestly appeal to the Government of India to support our cause in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and basic research," he said.
Appealing the Government to establish an IISER in Manipur, the MP also mentioned that even though the State lacks such premiere institutes, there are a number of scientists from the region performing well at National and international level with commendable contributions in their respective fields.
Such an institution would groom the young brilliant minds and nurture their scientific creativity and research aptitude to compete in the global research domain, he said.
