CPI launches agitation to expose Govt follies

CPI Manipur State Council today launched a demonstration in the form of sit-in-protest against alleged misplaced policies of the State Government.
CPI comrades are also planning to storm the Manipur Legislative Assembly on June 20, according to CPI State Secretary Dr Nara.
He asserted that people have been enduring lot of misery on account of the Government's misplaced policies.
The party's agitation is aimed at securing what the people have been wishing.
Party members today staged sit-in-protest at Keishampat junction and similar protest demonstration would be staged at Thoubal on June 17 .
The agitation is being orchestrated by a body called the June Struggle Committee and its convenor and former Minister N Mangi explained that the agitation is aimed at achieving eight principal demands.
The main demands of June Struggle are; repeal AFSPA, save Sharmila's life, implement ILPS, uproot the practice of drug abuse and drug trafficking, check involvement of family members of the ruling party in drug trafficking, initiate dialogue with all insurgent groups without any pre-conditions, set up highway protection force, enact laws to check bandhs/blockades on highways, avoid privatisation of health and power sectors, provide 35 Kgs of rice to every household at Rs 2 per Kg very months and set up fast track courts to deal with crime against women, elaborated N Mangi.
Whereas Muster Roll employees of MI Department have not been getting their salaries for the 12 months, Works Department is being run by in-charge Chief Engineer.
The matter of SOs not being promoted to AEs need discussion at the State Assembly, Mangi asserted.
Meanwhile, JD (U) has not only hailed the State Assembly resolution in favour of implementing ILPS in the State but also suggested to send an all-party delegation to New Delhi to lobby for implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
JD(U) State president M Tombi while observing majority of the shopkeepers in Churachandpur and other hill districts are 'outsiders', urged hill based organisations to join the ILPS movement.
He informed that the joint meeting of opposition parties scheduled on June 19 would be held three days later.
The main agenda of the meeting is fielding common candidates in the next Parliamentary elections.
The Pangal Political Forum too would join the initiative for fielding common candidates.
