CADA highlights ill effects of intoxicants

Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) continues to impart awareness on the ills of intoxicants to the people.
The association in collaboration with All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Lamjing Seva Meira Paibi Lup and Council for Youth's Welfare (CYW) organised a discussion session on the impact of intoxicants to the society and people's responsibility in checking it at Sayang Konthoujam Leikai today.
CADA president Advocate Y Ratankumar, Nupi Samaj general secretary Th (O) Ramani, CYW vice-president Oinam Dwijamani, Lamjing Seva Meira Paibi president Salam (O) Manitombi, Wangoi Higher Secondary School retired Principal Chingtham Nabadwip, MDS Executive Engineer Konthoujam Dhaneshwor, Kuraomakhong United Club president Salam Raghumani, RIMS IHBT Head Dr A Meinya and Khuraijam Dinesh of DM College of Teachers' Education attended the programme was presidium members.
Dr A Meinya said that passive smokers are also vulnerable to many dreaded diseases like cancer just like smokers.
People usually think that consuming alcohol in little amount does not affect health.
However, it is just a myth and prolonged consumption of alcohol not only causes liver cirrhosis but also damages other vital organs.
Regular consumption of intoxicants always shortens life, Dr Meinya said.
In her speech, Th Ramani urged the public to give up the idea of managing family by selling liquor and intoxicants.
She said that although nobody sold liquor and intoxicants in the past, people could manage their families properly.
Y Ratankumar while speaking at the occasion said that the rate of liquor, tobacco and intoxicants consumption is increasing day by day.
In the light of this fact, people need to discuss why Manipur has witnessed slight decline in the performance of different sports disciplines.
He also expressed concern over Government's inability to enforce existing anti-intoxicants laws properly.
Ratankumar stressed on the need to launch effective campaigns against intoxicants by the Government in association with NGOs, local clubs and Meira Paibi bodies.
