Traffic management almost absent in some areas
Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, September 11 2016:
Traffic management is almost non-existent at Nagamapal-RIMS Road junction Wahengbam Leikai-Sagolband junction and Paona Keithel Road.
With a large number of passenger vehicles like diesel autos and Magic vans criss-crossing at Nagamapal-RIMS road junction as well as at Wahengbam Leikai-Sagolband junction, there is literally no traffic regulation at these places.
The one-way traffic system along Paona Keithel Road is constantly violated and literally traffic management is non-existent along this road.

Even though half the breadth of Paona Keithel road is occupied by vehicles parked there, people moving along the remaining half do not follow one-way traffic norms.
This only leads to traffic congestion. Although police, TCP personnel and VDF are deployed there, their presence does not make things any easier.
Commenting on The Sangai Express' campaign on traffic congestion and traffic management in Imphal city, the Transport Director maintained that one-way traffic system is still applied along Paona Keithel road.
Vehicles are allowed to move from North to South along Paona Keithel road but movement of vehicles in the opposite direction is prohibited.
Contrary to the Transport Director's assertion, many two-wheelers, rickshaws, and sometimes autos and even Tata Magic vans can be seen moving from South to North along the same road.
Imphal West TCP said that vehicles are not allowed entry into Paona Keithel road at Keishampat but vehicles which enter the road from different points violate the one-way traffic system as they move towards the North.
Surveillance by police, TCP and VDF is not enough.
Inculcation of better civic sense among the masses regarding compliance with traffic rules is more important, they asserted.
