Imphal, September 11 2016:
Torbung Area Social Development Organisation (TASDO) has said that they will oppose running of any Government office of Churachandpur district at Kangvai.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, TASDO convenor Sapam Rajen said that Kangvai is a part of 98-Torbung Part-I, which is a revenue village of Bishnupur district.
In 2009, the State Government opened a police outpost at Phougakchao Ikhai, which is also a part of 98-Torbung Part-I and issued the same on State Gazette, Rajen said.
Although, the out-post had adequate police and commando personnel, it could not take up any case as it was not a full-fledged police station.
As such, people of the area have been demanding the Government to upgrade the out-post to the status of a full-fledged police station, he added.
However, contrary to this demand, the State Cabinet took a decision to set up a police station of Chura-chandpur district at Kangvai, which is located a few metres away from Phougakchao Ikhai on September 6, he added.
Kangvai falls under the territory of Bishnupur district and the district administration has been collecting revenues/taxes from the villagers of Kangvai from 1960 .
As such, Rajen said, they would never allow any Government office of Churachandpur district within the territory of Bishnupur district as it would create confusion.
On September 17, 2015 as well, the Government tried to develop Kangvai as a model village under Sansad Aadharsh Grameen Yojana by allegedly using the name of a fictitious Gram Panchayat known as Kangvai Gram Panchayat.
However, the people of Bishnupur district intervened into the matter by submitting a memorandum to the Government, Rajen said.
