Conference kicks off

The 19th annual conference of the Association of Surgeons of India, Manipur State Chapter 2014 was opened today at RIMS Jubilee Hall with cultural programmes.
The theme of the two-day conference being held under the aegis of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Manipur State Chapter is 'Acute trauma and critical care' .
Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, ASI Manipur State Chapter president Prof Ksh Kala, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA Dr N Bijoy, RIMS Director Prof Ch Arunkumar, Prof H Manihar and Dr Ch Gyan attended the opening function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the conference, Phungzathang Tonsing underscored the significance of organising such a conference in Manipur.
In tandem with the multiple growth of vehicles in recent times, cases of road accidents have also been multiplying in the State.
These cases are further compounded by the inadequate breadth of roads.
It is quite opportune for the ASI Manipur State Chapter to hold the conference, Phungzathang said.
The conference was attended by well known surgeons from across the country and surgeon specialist Dr Huwang from Taiwan.
