Importance of Sports Psychology among the coaches and team managers has increased considerably in order to provide the moral strength to players of various sports disciplines, said Leishangthem Ajit, former Principal of National Sports Academy, Manipur during the reception of Hockey Gold Medalists Kothajit Khadangbam and Chinglensana Kangujam, and Bronze Medalists Th.Chanchan and P.Sushila by the Manipur Hockey here today.
Referring to the recent case of boxer Sarita in the Asian Games, L Ajit who is also the sports writer of this Daily said team managers need to be well conversed with the games they are managing.
The grand reception ceremony of Manipur Hockey held at its office at Singjamei Kongba Road Imphal was attended by Wangkhemcha Syamjai, President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union; Olympian Ksh.
Thoiba, President of Manipur Hockey; former Principal of NSA Leisangthem Ajit; and Sr.
Vice President of MH S.Sobita Devi as the Chief Guest, President and Guests of Honour respectively.
During the 17th Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea, Kothajit and Chinglensana were in the Indian Men's Hockey Team that brought Gold Medal for the country, while Chanchan and Sushila were in Indian Women's Hockey Team that bagged Bronze Medal.
.PSushila, however, was not present at the function, as she was out of station.
Participating as the chief guest of the reception ceremony, AMWJU President Wangkhemcha Syamjai said the players of this state, who are not well nurtured and encouraged by the state government, have brought laurels not only for the state but also for the whole country.
Lauding the efforts of Manipur Hockey in bringing up international level achievers, AMWJU President informed the gathering that the Journalists body is planning to organize a reception programme for sportspersons who excelled in the recently concluded Asian Games.
He also observed that the print media in Manipur has been encouraging the sportspersons by devoting enough sports pages in their publications.

Thoiba, in his presidential address, appealed to the government to arrange for a thorough consultation with experts in the field before taking up any sports infrastructure development initiative in the state.
During the programme attended by Hockey lovers, affiliating club members, media fraternity and families of the achievers, the four medal winners were presented with mementoes and gifts.
