State Level Training Program for Police Officials on Human Trafficking concluded

Imphal, November 01 2019: The two days State level training program for Police on Prevention and Investigation of cases of human trafficking and child sexual abuse concluded on Tuesday.

The program organized by FXB India Suraksha in collaboration with Manipur Police and Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights at 1 MR, Banquet Hall, Imphal on 4th-5th November, 2019 aims at building the capacities of the police officials on strengthened mechanisms to assure better investigation and protection systems for victims of trafficking.

A total of 95 Police Officers from different districts of Manipur participated during the two-day of the training programme.

The programme is conducted as part of project Mukti-an Anti Trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur implemented with the support of ECPAT Luxembourg since 2015 in Imphal and Ukhrul.

The last day of the training dealt on the process, procedures and legal framework to be looked upon in case of Human Trafficking case.

Dealing the concept deeper, the trainer distinguished trafficking in persons from Migration and Smuggling and how Police officials should be vigilant while dealing such cases ensuring and upholding rights of citizens.

were also carried out with the participants.

The participants also shared their own experiences and challenges during the program which was also addressed.

Mr.Satya Prakash, Program Manager, FXB India Suraksha said, "Being Police Officers, our major role should of identifying any cases of trafficking taking place and that could only be done when one is aware of the indicators and vulnerabilities to trafficking.

The things learnt during the event can be applied by the officials in their work areas and the challenges faced could be further discussed to improvise the mechanisms " .

The training also dealt with services available for the welfare of the victims of trafficking especially child victims.

The major challenge of lower conviction rates could be addressed through strengthened victim protection mechanisms which Police can ensure through collaboration and coordination with the available services," said Pranjita Borah, Program Officer, FXB India Suraksha.

Provisions of One Stop Centre, Ujjwala schemes, Integrated Child Protection Scheme, district Child Protection Unit and Victim Compensation were discussed during the program.

The two day program concluded with felicitation of the participants with Certificates of Recognition.

The Valedictory session was chaired by Ms.Joyce Lalremmawi, SP, CID-CB and Sumel Singh, Program Officer, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Thanking FXBIS for the two day training programme, Ms.Joyce Lalremmawi, SP, CID-CB said, "Participants should apply the learning of the training as they go back to their own field areas" .

Sumel Singh, Program Officer, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights said, "In MCPCR, we receive cases of child sexual abuse everyday, which means that the issue is widely prevalent in Manipur.

Therefore, such trainings are very important especially for Police officials as they are the first responders for any case of sexual abuse" .

The two day program was conducted under the guidance of the Hon.

Director General of Police, Manipur, Mr.L.M.Khaute.

The FXBIS team met him at his office and briefed him about the two day programs where he appreciated the effort and stressed upon the necessity of such trainings programs in future as well for effective policing especially for cases of human trafficking and child sexual abuse.
