A 50-year old man who raped a 9-year old minor girl at Sugnu Awang Leikai ward no.1 under Sugnu Police Station of Thoubal district has been rounded up and handed to the police by the local people.
The rape occurred in the afternoon of August 7 and the man identified as Laishram Ibopishak of Sugnu Awang Leikai ward no.1 was rounded up by the local people and handed over to the police the following day.
Talking to mediapersons in connection with the incident at Manipur Press Club here today, mother of the victim, Tekcham Ongbi Sangita informed that Ibopishak committed the despicable crime on her 9-year old daughter in the afternoon of August 7 .
She said that her daughter was playing along with one of the daughters of the accused in his courtyard when Ibopishak called her inside the house and raped her.
After committing the crime, Ibopishak also threatened the girl to be killed if she told any one about it, Sangita said, while informing that she and her husband Brojen came to know about the crime on returning home from work in the evening when her daughter complained of pain in her private parts.
Consequently, she went to confront Ibopishak at his own house and the matter was reported to other local people.
However, it was on the following day that the local people rounded up Ibopishak and handed him over to the police, Sangita informed.
Brojen told mediapersons that at the time of handing over Ibopishak, the police have also taken them along with their daughter for medical check up at Thoubal.
However, as they were told that the arrival of the medical report would take to a couple of days, they returned home.
After two days, he went to Sugnu Police, to enquire about the report and the second OC of the police station conveyed that Ibopishak had sought forgiveness for his crime.
Later on after hearing that Ibopishak would be produced in the court, Brojen said, he went to the court but the accused was not produced in the court at all.
Afterward, he went to Thoubal Police he was informed that Ibopishak had been send to jail.
But it is not known whether Ibopishak had been actually send to the jail or nor, Brojen said.
Secretary of Lamjing Meira Lup, Sugnu Thounaojam Leinou, who was also present during the press conference informed mediapersons that a decision has been taken to expel Ibopishak from the locality and his house would be destroyed tomorrow.
