Imphal, August 28:
Accusing the DC of Chandel district Ashokumar of playing the divide and rule game between the Nagas and the Kukis in the district, chairman of the Kuki People's Forum, Yangkhopao Haokip today alleged that the DC had not sanctioned the money from the District Common Fund fairly.
Talking to newsmen at Sahumphai village at Sugnu today, the chairman alleged that instead of sanctioning the amount equally between the Nagas and the Kukis, the DC has sanctioned more money for Naga areas.
Giving details, he said that for the fiscal 2007-08, a total of Rs 82 lakhs were sanctioned for Naga areas while for the Kuki areas it was just Rs 23 lakhs, in 2008-09 the amount for the Naga areas is Rs 222 lakhs while for the Kuki areas it is Rs 19 lakhs, for 2009-2010 Rs 165 lakhs have been sanctioned for Naga areas while for Kuki areas it is only Rs 76 lakhs, for 2010-2011 the amount for the Naga areas is Rs 194 lakhs while for Kuki areas it is Rs 81 lakhs and for 2011-2012 the amount for Naga areas is Rs 194 lakhs while for Kuki areas it is Rs 87 lakhs.
Alleging that the wide disparity in distributing the fund is a game of divide and rule policy adopted by the DC, the chairman said that this may lead to misunderstanding between the Nagas and Kukis in Chandel district.
The amount sanctioned for the fiscal 2007-08 ha already been withdrawn, informed the chairman and added that the remaining fund, which has been sanctioned but yet to be withdrawn, should be reviewed by September 10 this year in view of the wide disparity in the distribution of the fund.
In case the DC fails to review the allotment of fund, then intense form of agitations would be launched from the day after September 10 .
The DC should be held responsible for any untoward incident.
Stating that the Kuki People's Forum, Chandel was formed primarily to look into the implementation of development projects in the district, Haokip said instead of understanding the aim of the Forum, the DC acted haughtily when they went to meet to discuss the matter.
When inquired about the District Common Fund, the DC did not give a clear reply and instead raised his voice, alleged Haokip and added such an officer who does not know the local situation is now wanted in Chandel.
He should be replaced by someone who knows the local situation, demanded the chairman.
Under the NREGS till date the pay for only 36 days has been released, alleged Haokip and added that this is due to the failure to produce the utilisation certificate on time.
The Forum will soon probe the matter, he added.
