Consequent to the joint decision of the KYKL and UNLF at the central committee level deliberation held from May 25 till 30 to revive and systematically tap human resources as well as streamline and improve medical and public health sectors, all activities connected with the Operation New Kangleipak (ONK) of the KYKL will remain in suspension with immediate (August 28) effect, informed the proscribed KYKL's information and research secretary Lanngamba Mangang in a statement.
Conveying that the Central Committee meeting focused on humanisation of the Manipuri society in all its aspects with particular emphasis on revival of the spirit and zeal associated with Manipuris before prolong subjugation and existence under the rule of Govt of India resulted in the gradual decay of the society's socio-economic position, the KYKL said under the joint initiative of the KYKL-UNLF policy/work had commenced to put Manipur's economy back on the right track.
With the setting up of the Joint Task Forces (HM) and entrusting the unit to sustain the efforts related to revival and strengthening human resources, medical and public health sector, decision to suspend ONK had been taken, Lanngamba maintained while reminding that ONK was formed on January 9, 1999 to revive and improve human resource sector.
Apart from the ONK activities kept under suspension, the Special Task Force set-up to execute and implement the ONK's programmes/tasks has been disbanded with immediate effect, the KYKL declared and added that including pending tasks of the ONK the Joint Task Force (HM) would handle all related activities.
Further announcing that ban clamped under the ONK regarding private tuition by Government school teachers has been withdrawn with immediate effect, Lanngamba however said other prohibitions imposed in connection with the ONK would remain in force.
Further highlighting that whatever little success ONK had achieved was due to the cooperation and solidarity of the masses, the KYKL also urged upon the people to continuously extend such cooperation to the joint efforts of the KYKL-UNLF so as to enable the two lay a strong foundation for the future prosperity of the people of Manipur.
