The 10th foundation day of the United People's Front (UPF) was observed today at Kangla hall with representatives of different civil organisations.
The observation was attended by Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof C Amuba, UPF president Dhiren, news Editor of ISTV Y Rupachandra and general secretary of All Manipur Bar Association Md Abdul Qayum as presidium members.
During the observance, second edition of late N Pahari's book "Eigee Dairydagee" published by Eikhoigee Panthung was released.
Taking part in the observance, UCM president K Langamba alleged that the Suspension of Operation agreed between the Government and some UG groups has been reduced to a farce as some groups are not complying with SoO ground rules.
Many speakers addressing the function highlighted the importance of uniting different sections of the society.
They noted that modernisation programmes taken up in Imphal city does not development of the State.
Taking grim note of the massive deployment of security forces and alleged harassment and excesses meted out to the common people, they decried the reported total annihilation of the State's economy which has rendered Manipur totally dependent.
Y Rupachandra called upon the people to keep media a free zone so that it can help address the various contentious issues besieging the State.
In his speech, Prof C Amuba asserted that civil organisations of the State should be more vocal against human rights violation by State forces as well as by non-State elements.
Stating that all projects being planned and taken up by the Government have merits and demerits, he observed that the Govt's pays no heed to people's protest as they are unable to make constructive assessments of these projects.
The function concluded with presentation of different cultural programmes.
