Imphal, June 20:
Highlighting the woes of the two villages of Nungphura and Thungcheng in Chandel district of Manipur in the absence of regular drinking water supply, village authorities of the two villages submitted a joint memorandum on Friday to the State PHE Minister TN Haokip for scientific enhancement of water supply at Unopat village in Chandel district and other surrounding villages under the NLCPR.
The memorandum jointly signed by Thungcheng village chairman RL Bronson and Nungphura village secretary BD Romeo urged the Minister for re-construction of reservoir dam at any suitable spot with scientific enhancement which upon the completion could even attract tourists.
Underlining that the two villages could not get water from the existing water supply plant which has been installed in 1980s though water meant for other nearby villages are drawn from the two villages and even the pipelines are laid through Thungcheng village, it stated that this has become a necessary concern.
The representation noted that decades had passed where the two villagers had tolerated the partiality and injustice where their own natural resources went to other villages via their villages while saying that this is a gross violation of human rights.
Apart from demanding the construction of water reservoir tank at Thungcheng village, the two village authorities have also urged for the clearance of approach road so as to enable proper transportation of construction materials till the site.
It argued that details of the project covering the two villages be made available under the provision of Right to Information Act.
