IEDs at RIMS

Two powerful bombs were today recovered from the complex of Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Imphal West district of Manipur, a PTI report quoted official sources as saying.
The bombs (improvised explosive device), each weig-hing 2 kgs, were attached to two mobile phones.
They were detected by garderners from the garden in front of the radiotherapy complex while cleaning at around 9.30 am.
Police were immediately informed by RIMS authorities, the sources said, adding that the bombs were later defused at a safe place.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the incident as yet, the PTI report said reminding that unidentified militants had earlier placed bombs at the RIMS complex on different occasions in the past two years.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by 69 Bn CRPF said the unit personnel stationed at RIMS hospital detected the explosive devices while conducting search of the campus with sniffer dogs.
Due to suspicion that some articles found wrapped in black polythene might be bombs, the CRPF men cordoned off the area along with covering the suspected IEDs with sandbags and intimating police bomb squad.
The IEDs, weighing about 700 grams were placed inside two tins and fitted with nails and detonators.
Informing that the CRPF has reviewed RIMS security in view of constant threat from UGs besides intensifying search operation to sanitise the campus, the statement conveyed that the battalion Commandant Rakesh Kumar Singh has lauded effort of the unit personnel, whose vigilance avoided possible loss of human lives.
The CO also urged the public to cooperate with the security forces to make RIMS Hospital a safe place for patients as well as hospital staff.
