Seven officials including a driver of the Public Health and Engineering Department have been reportedly abducted by unidentified persons on February 7 and their where-abouts not known till today.
A reliable source said that the officials were abducted by UNLF cadres.
Chief Engineer of the Department as well as the family members of the abducted officials lodged a complaint to the Chief Minister in this connection today afternoon.
Following the advice of the Chief Minister, the worried family members met Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam later during the day.
However, what transpired during the meeting is not known.
The officials who have been abducted are H Sushil (SE), M Ibomcha (SE), O Kulachandra (EE), Nobin (AE), Arun (SO), Nabakumar (SO) and Somo.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection, Chief Engineer of PHE Gurumayum Joychandra who was among those to meet the Chief Minister today said the urgency to meet the Chief Minister and lodged a complaint has come about as the abductors have asked for handing over some amount (fund) of the Department which had been allegedly misused.
But the Chief Minister told us to meet the Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, he added.
When questioned whether he would meet the Chief Minister after having met the Works Minister, the Chief Engineer replied in the affirmative.
However, whether the Chief Engineer or any of the family members of the abducted officials have met the CM after their meeting with the Works Minister could not be confirmed till the filing of this report.
