Imphal, December 11:
A hall belonging to a women exclusive Self Help Group was inaugurated today at Chandel district Hqs by Minister of Social Welfare DK Korungthang.
The hall constructed at the cost of Rs 9.50 lakhs was christened Swamsida Bhavan.
The hall was constructed under the guidelines added in 2000 in addition to the previous guidelines of Indira Awas Yojana.
Basically, the hall was constructed to facilitate successful implementation of schemes under Integrated Child Development Services Project.
The Indira Awas Yojana aimed at empowering women was implemented in Manipur in 2002.The Swamsida Bhavan inaugurated today included a training hall and a flour mill for SHG members.
Speaking as chief guest in the function graced by Chandel DC Norbert Disinang and Joint Director of Social Welfare Department S Saratkumar as president and guest of honour respectively, Korungthang conveyed concern over indulgence by politicians in the working of SHGs.
Such unnecessary indulgence by politicians would be detrimental to achieving the targets of SHGs, he remarked.
Observing that creating hindrances against any work has become a tradition in Manipur, he appealed to the people to cooperate in doing away with the failure to implement many welfare schemes even after the basic infrastructure has been installed.
