Imphal, December 11:
A delegation of the Political Parties' Forum Against Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 will be leaving Imphal for New Delhi tomorrow to press the demand for scrapping the controversial Act.
The decision of despatching the delegation was arrived at during a joint meeting of all the presidents and secretaries of the political parties which are members of the Forum today.
Party presidents and secretaries of NCP, MPP, MSCP, CPI (M), BSP, NNP and RJD attended the meeting.
The delegation would exert pressure on the Central leaders to press for the repeal of the Act during the ongoing winter session of the Parliament.
The delegates will also meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to submit memoranda in this connection.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, MPP president Dr L Chandramani said the Forum which has been formed with the sole objective of removal of AFSPA has nothing to do with the election.
Removal of the Act has always been the stand of all the National and regional political parties in Manipur, he added.
Even if the Act could not be repealed during the ongoing Parliamentary session, the Forum would continue its campaign he said, while appealing to all the political parties which are not part of the Forum as well as NGOs and individuals to extend their co-operation and support to the Forum.
