Imphal, May 08:
A library constructed in memory of later Master Laishram Chinglenkhomba was opened today at its own home at Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal.
Chinglenkhomba was murdered by a drug addict belonging to his own locality after snatching his ear rings at Pishum Chinga Macha on March 12 last year.
The inaugural function of the Chinglenkhomba Library, stocked with different types of books, was graced by Minister of Education L Jayantakumar, Director of Art and Culture Dr Kh Sorojini and Padmasree L Nabakishore as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The inaugural function was marked by offering floral tributes to the photograph of Chinglenkhomba.
Later, addressing the gathering, Jayantakumar stressed on the need to enhance library movement in Manipur.
Stating that library is the greatest source of knowledge, the Education Minister lamented at the very limited numbers of libraries run by NGOs and private individuals even as there are many State-run libraries.
He further expressed his wish that the library newly opened today may help in leading youths in the right direction.
Padmasree Nabakishore noted that a wellstocked library is meaningless if the books stored there are not read.
He appealled to all to cultivate the habit of reading good books.
Secretary of the Ethno-biological Research Centre, Manipur Dr Lanchenba who shared main responsibility in the establishment of the Chinglenkhomba Library said that the library was opened to give a new light to youths drowning in the sea of drugs and intoxicants.
Even though Chinglenkhomba suffered a premature death, the library opened in his name may live for eternity and help bring peace in the society, Lanchenba said.
Stating that there are plans to enlarge the library, he sought cooperation from the people towards this end.
