Ukhrul, December 01 2009:
Peeved with the delay of issuing the due wages to job card holders of NREGS, a massive rally was taken out from TNL Ground to DC Office, here today.
The rally was organized by Nungbi Kachui village under Chingai sub-division against non-disbursal of NREGS wages for the last 72 days.
The demands included immediate release of the due wages of 72 days.
The protesters said that out of the 100 days job guaranteed under the scheme, only 28 days' wages have been given whereas the remaining wages are yet to be given by the authority concerned which is much against the laid down rules of the NREGS.
The protesters carried banners inscribed as 'Nungbi Kachui NREGS job card holders demand payment of 72 days wages of 2008 to DC Ukhrul and SDO Chingai".

By the side line of the rally, the villagers stated that the works from Shingling village main road to Nungbi Kachui village had been executed and spot inspection already done by the concerned authority, however, to the surprise of the villagers 72 days' wages are pending till date.
This was a direct blow to village development besides causing undue hardships to the poor villagers who have been executing the work sincerely.
