Director General of Police (DGP), Y Joykumar has urged all policemen to perform their duties sincerely in the interest of the people while noting that the role of the police in enforcing law and order is full of challenges.
DGP Y Joykumar was speaking at the 10th Rising Day celebration of the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at the headquarters of the IRB battalion located at Khuman Lampak.
He said, the police personnel have many things to learn on service.
The training given to the policemen is not adequate.
The personnel should try to adapt to deal the situations which are arising from time to time.
They should use new ideas while they are into the profession.
Y Joykumar said, the person in such challenging situation should work accrding to law while performing their duties in the interest of the people.
The personnel should try to bring good name for the police department.
Speaking on the occasion, Commandant of 2nd IRB, HT Gangte, IPS, pointed out that the 2nd IRB has, so far, killed 14 extremists and apprehended around 74 since its inception.
The battalion lost 9 jawans while performing their duties.
He said, the battalion has 894 personnel at present.
Among them, 71 personnel are attached with the police commandos.
The jawans are deployed to protect vital installations, law and order, ROP, security area combination including various counter-insurgency operations.
The jawans are also deployed to guard the Capital Project, and stationed at Naranseina and Kwakta, HT Gangte said.
Apart from these, the battalion has also earned several medals at the national level hockey and fencing games, he said.
The DGP was accorded guard of honour by jawans of the 2nd IRB.
Various top police officials have also attended the function.
Noted comedians like Sougrakpam Hemanta, Joseph and Happy Rajen have enthralled the jawans and the gatherings.
