The electioneering period for the by-poll to Khangabok A/C and Khundrakpam A/C slated for June 2 has come to an end at 4 pm today.
With the lapse of the campaign period, all political leaders and workers belonging to constituencies other than the two have been prohibited from entering the two constituencies.
In Khundrakpam A/C, six candidates including a woman are in the fray.
Altogether 23,155 voters will cast their votes in 28 polling stations to decide the fate of the six candidates.
On the other hand, the Khangabok A/C will see a triangular contest including one woman.
A total of 29,110 voters will exercise their franchise in 32 polling stations of the Assembly segment.
With the lapse of electioneering period, necessary measures have been initiated with immediate effect to prevent entry of political leaders, workers and VIPs belonging to other constituencies.
For Khundrakpam A/C police have opened frisking/check points at Sawombung Bazar and Pangei Bazar.
Similarly, police have started frisking exercise at Khongjom and in front of
Thoubal police station.
As all the polling stations of the two constituencies are considered sensitive or hyper-sensitive, it is reported that not less than 2/3 sections of paramilitary forces will be deployed in each polling station.
In the event of circumstances requiring re-poll, the same will be held on June 4 while counting of votes will be done on the next day at district Hqs.
Meanwhile, according to information received by the press, in connection with by-poll to Khangabok A/C, all the vehicles coming from Imphal would be diverted from Yairipok Lamkhai towards Wangbal with effect from 8 am tomorrow.
The traffic diversion would remain in effect on the following day from 8 am to 4 pm.
