Imphal, May 31:
The muck in the School Education Department continues with yet another case of attempting to withdraw Rs 84,82,131 by forging the signatures of some officers emerging.
Talking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that matters have come to light that the signatures of the then Commissioner of Education S Budhachandra, Joint Secretary, Finance K Radhakumar and Deputy Secretary M Chandramani were forged to withdraw Rs 84,32,131.Since the forgery has been detected, the State Government has asked the police to register a case and proceed with the investigation.
The source said that the said amount was meant for the construction of the compound wall of the ZEO of Senapati including the main gate, four office rooms, quarter, administration block, cycle shed and toilet cum urinal.
The money was released on March 23 this year and deposited at the account of the ZEO, Senapati just ahead of the new financial year.
Then on March 28, the signature of the Joint Secretary of Finance, K Radhakumar was forged and the approval to withdraw the amount by way of AC bill was notified.
The signature of the Deputy Secretary (Education) M Chandramani was also forged and an order was issued on March 26 that the amount can be withdrawn, said the source.
However when the file allowing the withdrawal of the said bills was submitted to the office of the ZEO, Senapati, it raised suspicions.
Thereafter the file was sent to Imphal again for re-confirmation and the forgeries were detected, said the source.
Following the detection of the foul play, the ZEO, Senapati asked the police to register a case and the Education Department Secretary has today issued an order that the forged bills should be deposited at the Govt's account.
