Imphal, May 31:
The International Week of the Disappeared observance held under the aegis Families of the involuntarily Disappeared Association (Fidam) concluded with a solemn function at manipur Press Club today.
The closing programme of the observation, that began from hamleikhong in Ukhrul district on May 26, and held under the sentimental theme of 'seeking help in tracing lost ones' was attended by news Editor of ISTV network Kangujam Madhumangol and FIDAM president kangujam Ranjit as the chief guest and president respectively.
in his presidential address, the Fidam functionary asserted that with the government unable to provide number of individuals whose whereabouts remain unknown after arrest by security force personnel legal assistance would be sought in bringing out the figure.
He also stated that a memorial site would be established in remembrance of those involuntarily disappeared.
Speaking on the occasion president of Manipur Forward youth Front Sapamcha Kangleipal contended that sustained militarization of manipur pursued by the Government of India has only added to suffering of the general public with the end result being people becoming more and more violent in nature and non-hesitant to slay fellow human kind at the slightest provocation.
Opining that prolonged militarization process had only diluted image of the people of manipur with the masses forced to tolerate impact of trigger happy and insensitive security personnel, kangleipal called upon the people to introspect the situation and contribute their mite in protecting the future of Manipur and its people.
The weeklong observation was marked with FIDAM members visiting family members who had to bear involuntary disappearance of their near and dear ones.
In an expression solidarity to suffering of the affected families, simple gifts were also presented.
