Gaikhangam belittles opposition parties

Persisting with his blistering remarks against the opposition political parties, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam belittled the op-position political organisations as a group of entity whose ac-tivities mainly concern hoisting of flags at the time of elections.
Speaking at a block level political conference on Natio-nal Food Security Act 2013 at Uripok Takhellambam Lei-kai Radhabinodolal Mandap today, Gaikhangam, who is also the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president stated that with election round the corner opposition leaders have started to make a hue and cry without any justifiable cause.
describing the opposition parties as disoriented and alienated from the general pu- blic, he opined that recent spurt of criticism against the Congress Government after a long spell of dormancy, during which no activity concer- ning interest of the common people was initiated, not only testify that the opposition parties are frustrated but also clearly demonstrate that they are trying to sway the public pretentiously.
maintaining that outbursts by opposition political leaders are merely intended on projecting themselves as patriotic individuals, Gaikhan- gam also dismissed such outcry as sign of frustration and hopelessness.
Without mentioning na-mes, he also conveyed appre- ciation to certain opposition leaders for supporting him as well as the Congress organisation.
Affirming that as MPCC chief and Deputy CM he is committed to protect Mani-pur's emotional integrity and promote cordiality amongst different community settled in the State, Gaikhangam said his endeavours should not be associated with gaining popularity.
Maintaining that Congress party feels restlessness if it distances from the masses, the State Congress chief said regardless of time or location the party is committed to work for the welfare of the people for Congress has firm belief that without the support of the masses existence of both the party and the Government is impossible.
Explaining that implementation of the national Food Security Act would immense-ly benefit all the citizens, he also pointed out that inspite of objection raised by the opposition parties the Act has been successfully passed in the Parliament.
The Deputy CM also appealed to the people to comply with the Act's prescribed norms so as to reap the benefits.
Speaking at the occasion Uripok AC MLA L Nandakumar highlighted that the Act schemed by the Congress is aimed at ensuring that no citizen suffer from hunger.
As benefits of the Act need elaboration today's political conference is being conducted to make the people aware, he added.
Mahila Congress Committee president RK Ranisana and MPCC secretaries S Jiten and Sashikanta deliberated on National Food Security Act.
