Imphal, September 29 2013:
Saying that the use of the term 'Kuki' instead of 'Thadou-Kuki' in the e-Bible which is soon to hit the stands, is a gross distortion of facts and truth and essentially unchristian, the Thadou Students' Association (TSA) Bengaluru has urged Dr T Lunkim, Administrative Secretary of KCC and the man behind the eBible to kindly rename the language to "Thadou-Kuki" in the interest of the Kuki people before the release in convention and accordance with the latest court verdict of Feb 3, 1995 .
The TSA Bengaluru has submitted a memorandum to Dr T Lunkim in this regard.
The TSA-B memo signed by its general secretary, Haolienlal Haokip, and a copy of the memo made available to the press, categorically asked Dr Lunkim as what is a Kuki common language reference and who had given him the mandate to term Thadou/Thadou-Kuki Bible as Kuki Bible.
The TSA-B also asked Dr Lunkim to clarify if Dr Lunkim is reducing 'Kuki' to a tribe's status by (wrongly) terming Thadou-Kuki Bible as Kuki Bible which means other Kuki tribes including the Thadous are not part of Kuki.
The TSA also wanted to know whether there is any implication that those who could not read the Kuki Bible are not Kukis.
If at all there should be a Kuki common language, it needs to be evolving, if not through a consensus, other wise there would be irreparable serious ramifications as it could be imagined, given what had happened in the past, the Thadou students' body asserted.
"As of now, what needs to be accepted by one and all in Kuki public interest, putting aside the narrow and divisive approach, is that Kuki is not a language nor a tribe and therefore should not be referred to as such," the TSA-B further asserted.
