Brig RK Singh, Col DPK Pillai visit Longdi Pabram

Brig RK Singh, Dy IGAR (South) and Col DPK Pillai, SC visited Longdi Pabram village, Tamenglong today and donated solar lights to the villagers.
Taking note of the fact that Longdi Pabram village does not have electricity supply, 23 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) donated ten solar lights, 100 solar lanterns and 500 solar lamps to the villagers.
Col DPK Pillai, SC shares a special bond with Longdi Pabram village.
During a gun fight with Naga insurgents on January 25, 1994, Col DPK Pillai who was seriously injured refused to be evacuated in the helicopter and chose to evacuate two children who got injured in the cross fire.

His selfless act touched the hearts of both the villagers and insurgents.
The villagers took him as one of their own clan members and gave him a name 'Pillai Pamei' .
During the programme, IGAR (South) also reaffirmed the commitment of Assam Rifles which is help the needy, provide assistance in remote areas and bring peace in the North East region.
Brig RK Singh also interacted with the villagers and children.
Col Pillai had an emotional reunion with Maseliu Pamei and Dingamang Pamei, the two children whom he saved in 1994.The locals expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Assam Rifles for visiting the village and bringing light into their lives.
Col DP Singh, Offg Cdr, 9 Sector Assam Rifles and Lt Col KD Sharma, Offg Commandant of 23 Assam Rifles were also present at the occasion.
