Imphal, June 26 2012:
The Churachandpur District Students Union (CDSU) submitted a written representation to the Chief Minister on behalf of the students of Government schools to redress their grievances regarding the re-engagement of teachers appointed on contract basis in the hill districts.
An MoU between the Government of Manipur and the All Tribal Students Union (ATSUM) on March 31, 2006 required teachers in the hill district schools to be filled on the basis of "need and requirement".
The Zonal Education Officers of Churanchandpur officiated the need of 455 teachers for running of schools, following which the Directorate (Hills) prepared and submitted zonewise and school wise particulars of teachers, number of students and number of additional teachers.
The redressal of the CDSU mentioned that the re-varification process of teachers on contract basis in the hill districts of Manipur since 2006, for service extension for one full academic session w.e.f January to December 2012, has been submitted to the higher authority for necessary action, however, even after numerous assurance from the Chief Minister to ATSUM, there has been no positive outcome.
CDSU appealed of the CM to intervene in the affair and relief the impending issue of contract teachers and the problems of the students.
