Imphal, July 15 2026:
A sit-in protest was staged today at Uchiwa Mamang Leikai urging the Government to restore normalcy in Manipur.
The demonstration was organised by the Mayai Lambi Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (MLAMPAL), Uchiwa Kabui Women's Association, Uchiwa Meira Paibi and others under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) .
During the protest, the demonstrators alleged that Kuki militant groups being used by Indian security forces, had been carrying out a violent campaign against the indigenous people of Manipur.
They urged the Government to stop the alleged atrocities.
The crisis in Manipur has worsened, they said and questioned the Government's response to the situation in the State.
They alleged that the Government remained silent even when civilians were abducted in the presence of security forces and and killed and when attacks were launched in Manipur by people from across the border.
The protesters also alleged that the Government has failed miserably to resolve the crisis, let alone restore peace.
They further accused the Government of India of using Kuki armed groups to pursue divisive politics, while calling for unity among the indigenous people.
