Imphal, July 15 2026:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over the growing trust deficit among the people towards the Government of India amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
In a statement, the Council said that the manner in which the crisis has unfolded has significantly eroded public trust towards the Government.
It also said that the Central security forces, including the Army, have not succeeded in restoring the confidence and trust of the people.
The crisis persists despite the deployment of more than 60,000 Army and paramilitary personnel, it said and added that people have begun to question whether the policy and approach of the Government of India to resolve the crisis is genuine.
There is also a widespread perception that the Constitutional authority of the elected State Government has not been able to function effectively, it said and urged the Prime Minister to intervene and strengthen Constitutional governance in Manipur.
Rebuilding public trust in the Government of India is the most urgent requirement, it added.
