Imphal, April 16 2021:
The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), Manipur has affirmed that they take the issue concerning Mt Koubru very seriously as CSOs and people of certain community placing a ban on entering the mountain is a direct challenge to the Meitei/Meetei community which has been safeguarding Manipur for thousands of years.
In a statement, Ngamkheingakpa Luwang, secretary-general KKL, also asserted that the Meetei/Meitei never compromise when the land of the State is at stake.
Though people of many communities have settled now in the State due to globalisation, the Meetei/Meitei never look down on them, said the lup.
Saying that the Meetei/Meitei never restricted people of other communities setting up worshipping places in the valley, the lup asked on what basis people of a certain community are claiming the sacred places of Meitei/Meetei which are in existence since time immemorial to be their ancestral lands.
The lup also urged the community concerned to furnish the proof of the lands which are claimed to be theirs.
Reminding that the worship site at Mt Koubru is sacred to the Meetei/Meitei and no amount of arguments can deny it, KKL maintained that Kangleipak, now called Manipur, is the place of origin of the Meetei/Meitei race.
Meeitei/Meitei are now settled in different parts of the world, but they never claimed the land or the worship places of others as theirs or have the intention to do so, the statement continued and added that targeting the sacred places of other communities is upsetting.
KKL then urged the people of Manipur, especially Meitei/Meetei to continue scaling Mt Koubru without any fear.
Appealing to the State Government to serve a strong warning to the people who are disturbing the religious practices of the Meetei/Meitei and solve the issue at the earliest, the lup contended that maintaining silence at these crucial hours is not advisable.
The KKL further stated that they will take a harsher resolution if the sacred places of Meetei/Meitei are attacked again.
