Imphal, April 16 2021:
The Manipur Pandit Loishang has called on religious, political and apex bodies' leaders to play their part in settling the issue surrounding Mount Koubru after some organisations and individuals imposed restrictions of all sort.
If the matter is not checked on time, communities who consider and revere Mount Koubru as a sacred site will not remain quiet spectator, warned the Manipur Pandit Loishang in a press release.
The Pandit Loisang and other like minded organisation's will also join hands to act against the organisations and individuals in the event the leaders fail to keep them under control and prevent the issue from worsening, it said.
To Meitei and many other indigenous communities, Mt Koubru not only bears religious significance but is also considered the place where Meitei civilization originated from and started flourishing.
The Loisang will not accept or compromise on any attempt to disregard, hold sway and decide the future of such a site by certain organisations or individuals.
Organisations of communities settling near the foothills, some or the other way, should not politicise the issue or link it to "Ancestral land" theory, it said.
The Loisang is well prepared to counter any bid to rewrite history or prove indigeneity and lay claim over the place by people who have immigrated and settled in the recent decades, it said and questioned the silence of apex organisations of these communities.
The sacred site "Laiphamlen Koubru" is irreplaceable and incomparable with anything in the world and any motive to derail the age old traditions and rituals by some community who immigrated recently will never be entertained, it said.
It also drew the attention of the State Government to take up befitting actions against those responsible for creating the row and warned to initiate its own set of actions if the Government fails to come out with a solution.
