Thingyan festival concluded at MU

The two days Thingyan-2021 (Water Festival) organised by Centre for Myanmar Studies, Manipur University, was concluded today.
The water festival is celebrated across Myanmar as a 'New Year's Day', The inaugural day of the festival was attended by Prof S Sanatombi Singha, VC in-charge, MU; Prof W Chandbabu, Registrar, MU and Dr L Bishwanath Sharma.

The first day of the festival was kick off at Manipur University with the sprinkling of water with 'Thabyay' by releasing fish (Ngamu) at the Canchi park, MU, said a statement issued by Centre for Myanmar Studies, MU.
Four main speakers including Prof T Tampha Devi, Manipuri Department, MU; Associate Prof Ch Rajketan, Manipuri Department, MU; Sh Samu, president, Indo-Myanmar Association and Dr P Milan Khangemcha, Department of Philosophy delivered talks on different topics as a part of the celebration, added the statement.
Various events were exhibited which included Ngamu Thaba, Burmese cuisines and consrumes display, photo exhhibtion, talk show and cultural dance of Mynamar and Manipur performed by students of MU were also showcases at the event which was attended by students and teachers of the University alike.
Plantation of Papaya trees, which symbolizes the bonding between Myanmar and Manipur was also encouraged at the festival.
During the festival the Centre invited children in and around the campus of the University and sweets and Burmese delicacies were offered.
Coincidentally many tourists also took part in the Thingyan 2021 .
