CM highlights SPF's education agenda

The process for upgradation of 600 primary schools which are under the Government into model schools has already been started with funding from Ministry of DoNER, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has informed.
Addressing a special training on the flagship programmes/schemes organised by Tamenglong District Congress Committee at Longmai (Noney) under Nungba sub-division as chief guest today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that among the 15-point flagship programmes/schemes of the UPA Government, the State Government has taken up steps to recruit over 3000 teachers to ensure free and quality education to the students under SSA and RMSA.
In addition, process is already underway for upgradation of 600 primary schools under the Government of Manipur into model institutions.
Over and above this, job employment opportunities have been extended to many educated unemployed youths under the MGNREGS, the Chief Minister added.
Conceding that Tamenglong has remained the most backward district on account of poor road and communication facilities, the Chief Minister informed the gathering that necessary fund has been sanctioned for development of the existing Imphal-Tamenglong road.
Similarly, fund has also been sanctioned for the development of Old Cachar Road.
MPCC president Gaikhangam, who presided over the function, said all the developmental works being taken up by the Government in the State is for the welfare of the people.
He also sought continued support of the people in other developmental works to be taken up by the Government in future.
IPR Minister TN Haokip, ex-MLA Manga Vaiphei and other MPCC functionaries were also present at the function, .
Haochong dance troupe, Tamenglong block and Longmai dance troupe also presented cultural programme at the occasion.
The Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who attended another event today has stated that Congress party never promise anything to the people which could not be kept.
Speaking as chief guest of the 4th death anniversary function of Thokchom Nabakumar Singh, former MLA of Khundrakpam A/C at Thokchom Nabakumar Singh Memorial complex at Sagolmang today, Ibobi claimed that almost all the promises which the candidates of the Congress party have made to the people during election time have been fulfilled.
On the developmental issues of Imphal East district, the Chief Minister said that taking into consideration of the need for a district hospital, the Cabinet has decided to set up a 100-bedded district hospital for Imphal East.
The construction work would be started at the earliest and this hospital would be beneficial to all the people including those living in the hill areas like Saikul, Saitu, etc, the Chief Minister said.
He further stated that the ruling Congress led SPF Government has been trying its level best to finish the construction work on Dolaithabi Dam within the current year or latest by 2012 .
Once the Dolaithabi project is completed and commissioned, the Government would be able to solve the problem of water being faced by the people in most part of Imphal East district either for drinking or irrigational purposes, the Chief Minister assured.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister assured that Sagolmang Police Station is all set to become one of the best police stations in the State.
The Government is also trying to set up more police stations in Imphal East district, he added.
Organised under the joint aegis of Khundrakpam Kendra Development Committee and the family members of the departed MLA, the function was also attended by Minister L Jayantakumar, MLA T Mangibabu and other MLAs as presidium members.
