Imphal, April 11 2020:
Congress MLA AK Mirabai has questioned whether the State Government has been planning to facilitate transmission of COVID-19 among the masses by relaxing the ongoing lockdown for several hours today.
Taking serious note of the hardships caused by the lockdown to the common people, Mirabai has started distributing rice and other edible items to the people of her constituency out of the Patsoi Kendra MLA COVID-19 relief fund which was opened on April 1.Concerned SDO, SDC and officials of CAF&PD Department were also present during distribution of rice and other edible items today.
Asserting that social distancing norms and other precautions would be followed strictly while distributing the relief items, the Congress MLA asked whether the Government was indirectly promoting transmission of COVID-19 among the masses by relaxing the lockdown/curfew today after keeping the whole population under complete lockdown for 18 days.
She went on to ask if the Government's repeated appeals to all the people to stay at home has any meaning in the face of today's relaxation.
She also strongly condemned thrashing of people by police who came out during the hours of lockdown/curfew relaxation.
