Extremely incensed at being denied the opportunity of watching the semi-final match between Mary Kom and Nicola Adams, due to a power cut, a mob of about 30 ransacked the office of the Electricity Department at Churachandpur last evening.
Ever since the first Olympian from the district entered the semi-final and was ensured a medal, people from all walks of life young and old-had begun rallying behind the star-pugilist in a manner unprecedented in the district's history.
Everyone wanted to have a glimpse of her fight, and prayed for her.
The Electricity Department however failed to match that fervor and eventually ended up with a hefty loss as their office was ransacked by an angry mob that apparently missed Mary's bout Live.
The mob that ransacked the department office at about 6.45 pm smashed a good number of furniture including that of the Executive Engineer's table.
The mob however seemed to target only the furniture as the department has so far ruled out any damage to their crucial files or records.
The Executive Engineer of Power Department, Tuan-zalian today said he had received a good number of calls yesterday requesting him to supply power during Mary's bout.
"I tried my best on my part, talked to my superiors and concerned circle that regulates power in the State, to meet the people's wishes but there is nothing I can do when the assurances I received were not translated into action," he said, hinting that the act of vandalism was related to Mary Kom's bout.
