Fresh survey mooted

Concerned over the imminent loss of vast areas of Manipur's territory on account of the border fencing work taken by the Government of India along Moreh sector of the Indo-Myanmar border, a new committee has been constituted and the committee has demanded fresh survey of the Indo-Myanmar border.
The committee christened Committee on Protection of Land in Border Fencing was formed in a joint meeting of KSO Moreh Block, Eastern Maring Organisation, Rural People Development Federation, Zingsho Katamlong, Raphei Katamlong and chiefs of villages likely to be affected by the border fencing held today at the office of ICHAM.
According to ICHAM convenor and senior journalist Brojendro Ningomba, participants of the meeting unanimously demanded suspension of the border fencing work, re-survey of the border lines with border fence would constructed together with civil society leaders and putting the border fencing work on hold until a clear boundary is demarcated between Myanmar and Manipur.
The border fencing work would affect 14 villages in Chandel district namely; Satang, Choktong, Waksu, Lamlong Khunou, Saibol, Moirengthel, Gova-jang, B Bongjang, Yangnoi, L Molphai, N Gamnom, Rilram Centre, Leibi and Kwatha Khunou.
In Ukhrul district, the villages likely to be affected by the border fencing work are Wanglee, K Ashang Khullen, Bunbun, Z Choro, Skipe, Kangpat Khunou, Phaikoh, Molvailup, Phaimol, Chahong Khunou, Chatric, Kashung, Kachou Phung, Haiyang, Kampal, Khayang, Khamasom, Poi, North Tusom and Wahong.
The demands of the committee have been submitted to the Chief Minister in the form of a memorandum, said the convenor.
