Taking the first step towards the realisation of the environmentally friendly cycles made from bamboo, the Manipur Cycle Club has started a four day workshop at its office at Jupiter Yambem Centre at Paona bazar today.
The workshop will go on till April 4 .
Incidentally this is the first such workshop in the country.
About 20 participants taking in the workshop will be trained on how to fabricate bamboo and make them into cycle parts.
As part of the technical session on the first day today, a minute study on the statistical data of the variety of bamboo available in Manipur was conducted.
Methods of bamboo treatment were also discussed thoroughly.
The workshop is being held under the overall motto 'Cycle for Life' of the Manipur Cycle Club with environment protection being central to this.
Academician and environmentalist Dr RK Ranjan, former member of the MHRC Yambem Laba took the chairs of the opening day while Kamesh Salam of South Asia Bamboo Foundation and Assistant Mission Director of National Bamboo Mission, State chapter, Nongmaithem Somorendro participated.
