Bodies seek help

The All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA), Phungchongjang Village Authority, Henglep, Nongren Chingnungkok Gram Panchayat, Nongpok Kakching, Pongringlong Village Authority, Senapati district, and Kongkham Awang Youth & Co-adjutant Club, Nambol have urged the State Government to extend immediate assistance to the people affected by heavy rain and hailstorms that swept the State.
Phungchongjang Village Authority, Henglep stated that one house was damaged besides destruction to standing crops and vegetables, which is the livelihood of the community and has appealed to the civil bodies, NGOs and Government authority to look into the matter and give assistance.
AMPFA publicity secretary stated that farmers are suffering due to loss of crops and vegetables caused by excess rains and hailstorms and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest and provide relief measures.
Meanwhile Nongren Chingnungkok Gram Panchayat, Nongpok Kakching has also urged the department concerned to help the people under the GP affected by heavy rain and hailstorms.
People of Samaram village, Thoubal district have also urged the Government for help as many of them have been rendered homeless and are taking shelter in a nearby market shed.
Chairman of Pongringlong Village Authority, Senapati district, in a statement said that 20 houses have been destroyed and more than 10 hectares of paddy field have been swept away by flood and appealed for immediate assistance.
Kongkham Awang Youth & Co-adjutant Club, Nambol in a statement informed that heavy rains and hailstones have caused extensive damage to crops, fish farms, livestock, roof of houses etc and the locals are facing severe hardships.
N Loken, MLA of Nambol A/C, SDO, Nambol and Ward Development Committee members inspected the damage caused by nature's fury, it added.
Y Nillamani Singh, Spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh in a press release stated that the villagers of Upokpi Mamang Leikai and Paubitek under Wangoi Kendra have been severely affected by heavy rains and hailstones as houses have been damaged and around 500 people have been rendered homeless and urged the State Government to help the affected people by opening relief camp immediately.
