Imphal, January 24 2020:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the consultative meeting on food processing cum technology exhibition under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Connect North East at CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Branch Laboratory, Lamphelpat, today.
Speaking as the chief guest, Biren said that the people of Manipur are full of talents and capabilities and the State is undoubtedly the 'Jewel of India' .

He stated that the growth rate of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has increased by double, from 4 percent to 8 percent, under the present Government.
Such result shows that with the advent of the present regime, there is economic development in the State, the CM reasoned.
The revenue collection has increased from around Rs 500 crore to around Rs 900 crore after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the State, he continued.
The Chief Minister stated that with the support and love of the people, there has been a peaceful environment during the last three years.
Mentioning that bandhs and blockades are a thing of the past, he said that the grievances and problems faced the people in both the hills and the valley, are resolved in a timely fashion by the Government.
Biren thanked the CSIR for supporting the entrepreneurs of the State and requested CSIR to extend their support to conserve and preserve traditional paddy varieties of the State like Moirang Phou, Phoudomba etc.
He also urged CSIR to provide necessary technology for increasing productivity of such paddy varieties.
Stating that the Government has introduced 'Manipur Start-up scheme' to build a strong ecosystem to support and nurture entre-preneurship in the State, Biren mentioned that hundreds of entrepreneurs have benefited from the scheme.
Similarly, 'Stand-up Manipur' would be launched to encourage entrepreneurs belonging to SC, ST, OBC, women, differently-abled etc, he added.
Recognizing the unique identities of each district of the State, the Chief Minister informed that the Government is planning to recognise each and every district of the State for producing unique horticultural and agricultural products such as Tamenglong - the orange district of Manipur, Pherzwal- the ginger district of Manipur etc.
Member of Parliament Dr RK Ranjan, Director General of CSIR and Secretary DSIR Dr Shekhar C Mande, Scientist-in Charge, NEIST Branch Laboratory Dr H Birkumar Singh and delegates from outside the State were present during the function.
